Lowell Delbert Berg was born February 13, 1926 at rural Mount Vernon, SD to John and Alida (Thompson) Berg. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church at rural Letcher. He attended Christopher School in Sanborn County and attended Letcher High School. On June 24, 1951 he married Pearl Pederson. He farmed and raised cattle with his father near Letcher until 1964 when he and Pearl bought a farm near Kimball, SD. In 1971 they returned to the family farm where he operated a dairy until 1986 and then continued raising livestock until retiring. In 2002 he sold the farm and moved to rural Mitchell. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church at Platte and the Trinity Lutheran Church of Letcher, where he served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was a member of the Gideon’s and Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl, one son, Paul Berg of Mitchell, two daughters, Joanne Marroni of Maui, Hawaii, Elaine Reid and husband, Kim of Mitchell, fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven sisters-in-law, Violet Berg of South Carolina, Agnes Downing and husband, Don of Arizona, Opal Mathison and husband, Robert of Seattle, Bea Verhulst of North Dakota, Elva Meconitas and husband, Chuck of Florida, Grace Hagen and husband, Keith of North Dakota and Hannah Pederson of Sturgis, one brother-in-law, Arvid Pederson and wife, Rita of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Carla, sister, Burdell Nelson, brother, Arland and brothers-in-law, Ted Nelson, Olin Pederson and Ralph Verhulst.
